ABOUT US

BOARD & STAFF MEMBERS

The Brain Injury Association of Kansas and Greater Kansas City (BIAKS-GKC) is a non-profit serving thousands of individuals who have been affected by a life‐altering, often devastating brain injury. With our dedicated team of individuals, we strive to be the voice of Help, Hope & Healing–through education, outreach, support, awareness and advocacy. Meet the team that makes all this possible.

OUR MISSION & HISTORY

The Brain Injury Association of Kansas and Greater Kansas City is the only non-profit in the state of Kansas and the Greater Kansas City metro area solely serving individuals who have sustained traumatic brain injuries, their family members and the professionals who treat them. Our mission is to provide ongoing brain injury advocacy, education and resources. Our vision is to support people living with brain injury to live their lives to the fullest.

In 1982, Mary Pat Beals, the sister of a survivor of brain injury, founded the Kansas Head Injury Foundation. She saw a need to provide accurate and timely information to families whose loved ones had been affected by a brain injury so she recruited a group of 23 volunteers to help her. With an annual budget of $3,000, the organization incorporated in Kansas that same year, and became the fourth charted state association of the National Head Injury Foundation.
